When you access Twitter using an app or the web, recommended tweets will appear. While some of these recommendations contain useful information, there is much more unnecessary information. I will explain how to turn off unnecessary recommendations on Twitter.
To turn off recommendations, you can request to understand and archive your data.
1. Download Twitter Data Archive
To check data access information, you must download the Twitter data archive. The archive includes the information below.
You may download account-related information as data that can be recognized and processed by your computer. This includes profile information, tweets, direct messages, moments, media (images, videos, GIFs attached to tweets, direct messages, or moments), list of your followers, list of accounts you are following, address book, lists you have created, are a member of, or registered with, and Twitter. It contains information that we believe is most relevant and useful, including information about your interests and demographics that we infer about you, and information about advertisements you have seen or engaged with on Twitter.
If you’re logged into Twitter on the web or on the app, you can do followings.
2. Request Data archive
Twitter app for iOS or Android:
- Tap the navigation menu icon to access the main menu.
- Tap Settings & Privacy (Protection) .
- Select Your account .
- Select Download an archive of your data .
- Confirm your password and tap Request Archive .
If you’re logged in to Twitter on the web:
- In the navigation menu to the left of the timeline, click More
- Select Settings & Support .
- Select Settings & Privacy .
- Select Your account .
- Click Download an archive of your data.
- Confirm your password and select Request Archive.
You will receive email and in-app notifications when your archive is ready. The download includes a file called “My Archive” that allows you to view your data in your desktop web browser(Not in your mobile).
If you need to turn off or change recommendations, I recommend that you make a request first as archive requests which takes time.
3. Remove my recommended tweets or Twitter interests
The message below arrived in my email as follows. You must download and confirm by August 13th. There appears to be an expiration date on the requested data access.
A data archive was created upon my request and 7days are given. The archive has an expiration.
When I went in, it was huge. I used to be very interested in NFT, and there are a lot of NFT keywords registered.
If you click ‘adjust them‘, you will see checkboxes. You can finish removing recommended tweets by unchecking any unnecessary keywords one by one.
It’ll take a little time, but it’s not difficult to remove the recommended twe. Shall we go remove the recommended tweets?
